Mrs. Acros’ travel itinerary will take her first to the hills of the Cayo
District where she will be hosted by various members of the private sector, and
sample the various aspects of Belize’s eco-tourism. She will have the
opportunity to visit the Natural History Center and also engage in a tour of
Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM Cave) where she will be hiking in clear water streams
and over boulders. The second leg of her journey will take her to the Northern
part of Belize, partaking in a Crocodile Encounter as the naturalists endeavors
to capture, collect, data, and expand their understanding of the endangered
Morelet’s crocodile. The last stop on her seven-day itinerary took her to San
Pedro, Ambergris Caye where she enjoyed a snorkel tour of Hol Chan and Shark Ray
Alley.
"Ecotourism in Belize aims to create viable and sustainable tourism
opportunities, and limit the impact that all related activities will have on the
environment, while improving the lives of the local people living in the area"
comments Director of Tourism, Tracy Panton. "Increasing the awareness level of
Belize continues to be our main priority as we continue to practice responsible
and sustainable tourism."
