American Archaeology Magazine is the only popular magazine devoted to the
excitement and mystery of archaeology in the United States, with additional
coverage in Canada and Latin America. The magazine, with a circulation of
225,000, presents the research breakthroughs, persistent puzzles, and allows
readers to explore the historic past of modern-day cities as well as the
Conservancy’s activities and the preservation cause nationwide.
Their travel itinerary in Belize will take them to San Ignacio where their main
focus for their trip will be the El Pilar Archaeology Reserve for Maya Flora
& Fauna. They are intrigued to discover and learn about the largest site in
the Belize River Area with its 25 plazas and hundreds of other buildings
covering about 120 acres. The story is scheduled to run in the magazine’s Fall
or Winter 2009 Issue.
"International media support is key, as it represents a window of opportunity
for us to showcase Belize to a significantly wider audience by providing great
exposure to Belize," comments Tracy Panton, Director of Tourism. "Additionally,
trips like these afford them the opportunity to experience the tourism product
first hand."
Participating private sector partners which made this trip a success included
Cahal Pech Village Resort and the Institute of Archaeology.
